About
…”Yes, yes!” Majka said thoughtfully slurping a blanket of milk covering the coffee. As of lately she poured me a cup too. It was a hard win. For years I waited for her to forget herself and sip it one of surplus cups she kept on the silverplate in case a guest arrived. She told me an arsenal of legends to prevent me from trying it in secret. Not only did coffee stunt the growth, Majka claimed, but girls who drank coffee grew a tail. I was skeptical but it was enough for Fatty to drag his ghastly train of hair through the kitchen for my patience to return. As if it were an every day event, Majka eventually put a miniature coffee cup in front of me. Hotness poured out as I caressed the sugar cube the way I’ve seen elders do it. The moment my lips crinkled into an ‘o’ to greet the black liquid pursuing melted sugar on my tongue, I was sure I experienced a first orgasm. My body delighted in the coming of age. And Majka, she was no longer just a woman who had the permission to turn me into a respectable being. Now that my world had coffee life made sense. And when Majka talked, I understood importance of resurrected family tales. No longer only names in the book that came before me, people from the tales existed once as flesh and blood, and became almost as relevant as my nuclear family… (Excerpt from “On coffee and weddings”)
COFFEE WITH LOLA?
This online space is created to appease topics that make our days fulfilling: the globe, fashion, self-development, women, and of course coffee. During early years of my life, mornings were coffee fests in my grandmother’s kitchen. Family, friends, and neighbors visited her daily to join space and time. They divulged secrets, dissolved grudges, and dissected everything from philosophy to yellow journalism. And so started my love affair with that specific time during the day we designate for being, instead of doing.
WHO IS LOLA?
I’m Lola aka Aida – pick what you can pronounce. I was born & raised in Sarajevo, and live & play in the US. I strive to resurrect the tradition of satisfying our curiosity for information, closeness, and re-discovery of aesthetics and quality in every part of our lives. So grab a cuppa: tea, coffee, water, lemonade all allowed, and WELCOME! I want to re-discover this new-old habit with you.
Yours,
Lola
